Somsak Chaituch (b. 1967) is a Thai-born artist whose work translates emotional and dreamlike responses to nature rather than its direct representation. Raised in Northern Thailand, his early connection to the natural world continues to shape his practice. He studied at the Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU) and later earned an MFA from the Dutch Art Institute (DAI) in 2003. His work gained early recognition through awards and support from the Amsterdam Foundation for the Arts.

Chaituch’s paintings are defined by intricate linework, where compositions are both structured and filled with thick, tactile lines of paint, creating a vivid, almost embroidered surface. Following a life-threatening illness in 2007, he spent time in a Buddhist temple, an experience that deeply influenced his perspective. Since returning to painting in 2013, his work reflects a balance of resilience, introspection, and a deeply personal visual language.
