Somsak Chaituch

Somsak Chaituch (b. 1967, Northern Thailand) is an internationally acclaimed contemporary artist whose work honours the beauty, rhythm, and emotional power of nature. Influenced by his Thai heritage and shaped by his artistic life in Europe, Chaituch’s paintings bridge Eastern and Western traditions through vibrant colour, dynamic movement, and dream-inspired abstraction. At the age of 27, he moved to the Netherlands to pursue his art education, earning a Bachelor’s degree from the Utrecht Academy of Arts and a Master of Fine Arts and Design from the Dutch Art Institute (ArtEZ / University of Twente) in 2003. His career has been distinguished by numerous international awards, including the Premio Bello Arti at Biennale Milano, the International Prize at the Biennale di Genova, and multiple first prizes in painting competitions in Italy and Venice. He also received a starting stipend from the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts. As the artist states: “Nature is so beautiful I cannot paint it. Therefore, I paint my feelings for nature and use the forms and colours from my dreams.” He is currently presenting his exhibition Music for the Eyes at Intent Gallery, Dubai, where his latest works explore the synesthetic relationship between colour, rhythm, and emotion. Chaituch continues to exhibit internationally in museums, galleries, biennales, and major art fairs.
